LoL Esports App Alternative: Riftly vs the Official App

Last updated · Written by the Riftly team

The official LoL Esports app is a tab in Riot's Riot Mobile app. It is fine for rewatching matches from the major leagues. Riftly is built for following them: more leagues, live scores on your Lock Screen, standings, rosters and transfers. Here is how they compare.

Official app: the LoL Esports tab of Riot Mobile, as of October 19, 2026.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to the LoL Esports app?

For following League of Legends esports on iPhone, Riftly covers more than 130 leagues and adds what the official app lacks: Lock Screen and Dynamic Island Live Activities, standings, brackets, rosters, transfers, predictions and AI match summaries. Other options serve different needs: Strafe for fans of several esports, Liquipedia and Leaguepedia for tournament history, Flashscore and Sofascore for results next to traditional sports, and gol.gg or Oracle's Elixir for statistics.

What does the official LoL Esports app offer?

The official LoL Esports experience lives in a tab of Riot's Riot Mobile app. It covers about 30 major leagues, with VODs of past matches, a spoiler mode and notifications when a match starts for teams in those leagues. It has no Live Activities, standings, brackets, rosters or transfers.

Is there a LoL esports app with Live Activities?

Yes. Riftly shows the live score of your favorite teams' matches on the iPhone Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island with Live Activities, a Riftly Premium feature. The official Riot Mobile app sends a notification when a match starts but has no Live Activities.

Can I watch VODs in Riftly?

No. Riftly links each match to its official live streams on Twitch, YouTube, SOOP and BiliBili, and plays Twitch streams in the app with Picture-in-Picture, but it does not host VODs. To rewatch past matches, use Riot Mobile or lolesports.com.

Is Riftly free?

Yes. Riftly is free to download and use on iPhone, iPad and the web. An optional Riftly Premium subscription removes ads and unlocks Live Activities, Spoiler Mode, AI match summaries, countdowns and themes.

Is Riftly an official Riot Games app?

No. Riftly is an independent app developed by Xavier Briole. It is not endorsed by or affiliated with Riot Games.
